Ep79 – The Last Crusade

When there isn’t a whole lot of interesting new movies out and you learn one of your friends has never seen The Last Crusade, you invite them onto your podcast to mock them publicly. But you also offer them a beverage – because that’s what gentlemen and friends do. Grab a coldie and join us while we chat with our friend Kyle on his impression of the 1989 classic tale of hunting the Holy Grail with your estranged dad.

For beverages we got the hook up with 2 delicious brews from Burgeon Beer Co. First up was the Keep It Mosaic: a very crisp West Coast style IPA; followed by Sticky Fingers: A 100% Mosaic wet-hopped West Coast IPA knocked us on our buns!

Ep78 – Enola Holmes

Maybe one of the world’s most renowned and famous detectives can help figure out why we have to continually do episodes on Netflix Originals… Oh that’s right the apocalypse is still going on and all movies are postponed indefinitely! Good times, good times. Well anyway, probably not hard to deduce we’re going through Enola Holmes this week.

Lucky for us though we brought friends along for the ride this time around and ended up getting schooled on beer knowledge and history from brewery and pub owner Tom Nickel. We’ve featured his brews from Nickel Beer Co before, but today was much more in-depth since we had The Boss himself to tell tidbits of his fascinating beer journey. The beverages he brought were “Good Show, Mr Olsen” an herbal but insanely delicious IPA, as well as “Overnight To Julian” a more crisp and light IPA gave us the strength to get through yet another Netflix movie.

Ep 77 – The Devil All The Time

When the world is still reeling from a global pandemic that has decimated the spirits and hearts of everyone, what better time for one of the most depressing movies ever made?! There’s really not that much we can say to prepare you for our dive in of The Devil All The Time, but you may need years of therapy afterwards because this one was ROUGH.

The beverages for this soul crushing experience were the Funkin Nuts IPA and Hop Ottin IPA made by Anderson Valley, both were delightful and were the comfort we needed to get through this. Now if you don’t mind, it’s sleep-for-4-days-straight o’clock…

Ep76 – Ex Machina

It’s not like we need an excuse to drink delicious beer, but this is a special episode that gives us an excuse to drink delicious beer – because we had the Brewmaster from
10 Barrel Brewing Co Benny Shirley. He educated us on his rise to power at the brewery, and gave insider tidbits on 2 of his tasty brews, Cali Love – the long time running champion IPA of 10 Barrel’s taproom, and Chela Vida – a Mexican style lager that was made and ready for long sessions on the beach.

But no episode would be complete without mentioning Oscar Isaac’s Beard. Seriously, it’s so majestic you have to give it royal treatment. It’s also an excuse to chat a little about the hotly anticipated Dune trailer, and segue into another movie that stars The Beard: Ex Machina. This so-ahead-of-its-time sci-fi flick was the perfect excuse to really dive into Alex Garland’s masterpiece, and marvel at the power that rests within Oscar Isaac’s Beard. Grab a coldie, and lets get to it!

Ep75 – Bill & Ted 3

Prepare yourselves for an utmost excellent episode, my dudes! Not even a global pandemic could stop the return of the most triumphant of heroes; Bill & Ted! Bodacious times will be had as we cover the long awaited adventure that’s 25 years in the making. Grab a coldie, and hop to your nearest phone booth that’s actually a connection to the nexus of time itself, and let’s chat about Face The Music.

An epic tale requires epic beverages, and to help us on that quest comes The Anderson Brewing Company with a most bountiful spread of brews! We started with the Boont Amber Ale, a robust and flavorful yet sessional beverage. Then came the spicy Fall Hornin’ Pumpkin Ale which set the bar for fall beers. And closing out this triumphant trio is the Poleeko Pale Ale which had us looking forward to more of their brews!

Reviews, Brews, & Friends: Lord of the Rings pt.3

Every journey has an end…

Now we knew this one was going to be extremely long (much like the extended editions of the films) – but we didn’t anticipate it going as long as it did. Our friend Christopher Doucet joined us and provided insight and conversations that would make an elf look their actual age. So, we thought about you, Dear Listeners, and broke it up into 3 parts for convenience sake. This episode concludes our series our own little trilogy and focuses on Return of the King. You will need a pint or 2, so grab it and let’s start walking to Mordor!

A long journey can work up quite the thirst, and our friends at Rip Current Brewing: “http://ripcurrentbrewing.com/beers” were willing to take the challenge on with 2 brews: Lupilin Lust, a fierce west coast style double IPA) and Corriente Negra, an amber Mexican lager.

Check your virginity at the door, folks, because this is going to get crazy nerdy as Reviews, Brews, & Friends dives into The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Ep74 – The Tax Collector

Oh boy. Where to even begin with this turd of a movie. How about… It’s soooooo bad that we forgot to rate it. Seriously. The one thing we should be doing every single episode, and we were so off balance from the stink of this terrible film (if you want to call it that) that we forgot the format of our own show. So I guess that’s a spoiler? But hey, it’s made by the guy that made “Bright” and “Suicide Squad” so maybe you shouldn’t be too surprised.

Thank the old gods and the new for beer though! The only saving grace that got us through this one is the holy blessing that is Societe’s Good of the Public , a refreshing IPA that was literally made to be enjoyed in nature. Trust on this one, folks: You’re gonna need a coldie or 4 for the one, so grab it, and let’s do this thing!

Reviews, Brews, & Friends: Back To The Future

And now for something kinda different! Welcome To Reviews, Brews, & Friends: Chapter 1! With everyone locked down and safely distanced, we decided to start inviting our friends to talk about their favorite movies for a change. New, old, classic, or guilty pleasure? Anything goes as our friends pick what we get to chat about. For this episode long time friend and web master Ryan came on to talk about the classic Back To The Future and it’s lasting legacy. Shenanigans absolutely ensued on this episode – brace yourself.

But even with the new format, we drank some beer. Oh yes, we did! We all got to take part with Modern Times Orderville which is a San Diego staple that can be found in Utah. So grab a couple coldies and lets go back in time!
